Ted Mathias began life as a photographer in 1985, working as a high-volume portrait photographer. Since then he has photographed everything from White House and Capital Hill press events to pro, college and high school sports, from executive portraits to weddings. He has photographed the chairmen of Lockheed Martin and USF&G, boys getting haircuts or playing in fountains and experiments in mummification at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

While working with the Associated Press (1991 - 1996), Ted learned how to deliver photographs electronically. Beginning with drum ransmitters to helping test the use of Macintosh's to scan and transmit photos, he has been in the forefront of photographic technology. Since early 2000, Ted has been using digital cameras exclusively, eliminating the need for film and prints, and speeding the delivery of images to clients. As part of the digital revolution, Ted has begun producing QuickTime images, including panoramas and object VR, as well as some movie shorts.
